On June 7th, 2022, Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, created a video announcing the grid pinning feature.

How to Pin Posts on Instagram

To pin posts on Instagram, log into the platform on a mobile device. Then, tap on your desired post or Reel. For Reels, they must be published on the main Instagram feed to pin them.

In the top-right corner of the post, tap the three dots. Next, tap “Pin to your profile”. Once done, the post zooms to the top of the feed.

Currently, Instagram caps its pinning ability to three posts. Pinned posts fill out the top row from right to left. Once users hit their limit of three, Instagram informs them and presents the option to replace their oldest post. If a user does so, the oldest post leaves the pinned row, and the newest one assumes the left-most spot.
